About the piece :

ErsatZtrip is the first group piece invented by Christian Ubl and his collaborators. Uniting both dancers and non-dancers, with no forms of body heirarchy, judgement nor questioning of their presence. For the choreographer, live performance is seen as an ersatz of reality, making it the changing place of a certain living aesthetic and where the performer acts as a filter. This way the artist analyses his own experience in the knowlege that though, by definition, the ersatz is deemed a lesser quality copy, it is stilll however one that carries the strong notions of progress or invention. For this creation, the desired aesthetic is one of both harmony and energy and from this mix a character sometimes emanates, questioning the figure of the hero that at some point we have all aspired to be. An original creation based around a troubled and emotional climate peculiar to the artist.

About the choreographer :

The CUBe project saw light of day in 2001 after the appearances of Christian Ubl and Caroline Blanc at the Maison de la Danse in Istres. Since 2004, CUBe has developed under the direction and initiative of Christian UBL with the perspective of open collaboration between different contemporary artists. The choreographer’s desire is to propose spaces in the research of movement, image, music and architecture, with the objective of uniting these singular energies and to collectively question our society. Christian Ubl was notably a performer with Abou Lagraa, Michel Kelemenis, Les Carnets Bagouet, Daniel Dobbels, Christiane Blaise, Robert Seyfried, Delphine Gaud and Thomas Lebrun.
