In reviving À nos héros with the dancers of D.A.N.C.E, Angelin Preljocaj goes back to his beginnings. Created in 1986, this violent piece was inspired by statuary of monuments to the dead, starting with a strong polemic against totalitarianism. The style of the choreography is clear. There is an austerity of geometric composition, violently sharp lines take over in the hysteria the aesthetic conventions of national socialist realism. Angelin Preljocaj thus conveys to a new generation of interpreters, a dance vision, a certain idea of heroic action, “stimulating emotion and creation”, which he created right at the beginning.
