GERMAINE ACOGNY (Senegal)
Compagnie Jant-Bi
Waxtaan

The philosophy of Germaine Acogny, an emblematic figure and charismatic ambassador of African dance, is expressed in her last creation Waxtaan, which casts a new look on traditional dance to measure its contemporary value. By drawing on the rereading of yesterday’s dances, the choreographer lends a political, social and economic dimension to the work, and questions the current action of heads of African state.

Germaine Acogny created a technique of Modern African Dance and in 1995 established the International Centre for Traditional and Contemporary African Dances.
